Sheep’s Clothing

November 24, 2010

If you can tough out the minute or two of loading time (and I recommend it), you HAVE to check out the homemade clothing over at Aita or “sheep” in Latvian. The website alone is worth a look. It’s certainly the neatest I’ve seen in some time. jealous.

New Music Tuesday #39

November 23, 2010

Hey All, Welcome to this weeks NMT. Although I know you will enjoy my recommendations (yes-you-will!), I have a couple selections that (although I just discovered today) might be a few weeks old. If you’re a return visitor or music enthusiast you’ll know that usually happens when hunting for new music anyway.
I do hope you’ll take some time to check out these tracks as a few only get better the more you listen.

We’re preparing for a blizzard here in Utah, so I think I’ll go batten down the hatches and throw on an extra layer of clothes. Maybe the leopard skin tights?
Happy Tuesday to you.
Ciao.

After Effects

November 22, 2010

Photos by Daniele Del Nero

I was intrigued by the works of Italian designer Daniele Del Nero. He has created these paper structures resembling buildings and houses…and covered them in flour and a layer of mold. Then after a time, he simply photographs the outcome as a still life. He says of the work…

My purpose is to talk about the sense of time and destiny of the planet after
the human species, through the sense of restlessness which abandoned buildings
are able to communicate
.”

Very cool.

Check out many more pics of his work here…Daniele Del Nero

Live Now. Always.

November 18, 2010

This 45 second spot created by Andreas Nilsson for the Swedish Pension Fund is brilliant and beautiful. It doesn’t seem to follow the usual cheesy feel of other advertisments with the same idea. Instead, it takes a more eerie quiet and makes it powerful and strange at the same time. Very cool.

Oh and By-the-By…Longboarding NAKED? It’s now on my bucket list.

Check out more of his work here…Andreas Nilsson and here…nixonnoxin

Stop And Smell The…Grass?

November 18, 2010

Los Angeles based artist Mattia Casalegno has designed a wearable sensory device titled “The Open” that forces you to smell fresh cut grass while listening to your own breath. As it states on his site…

The work plays with the Deleuzian notion of “ritornell” (refrain), and about the quality of sound to define a territory. The space defined by the sound of breathing is in a state of costant imbalance between the physical act and its sensory perception and traces an unstable relationship with the intimate environment the garment reproduces.”

I for one…would love to have a go of it. I love the smell of fresh cut grass, and with the winter at our heels, the idea sounds just right. 🙂

Reflecting The Bright Lights

November 17, 2010

In this strangely fascinating short, Walter Hugo painstakingly resurrects the age-old studio technique of using silver nitrate on glass plates to produce portraits in a room-sized camera. (inhale)
Take a moment to have a look.

Film by Carlos C + Steven McInerney
Track: Moby “Shot in the Back of the Head | ambient”

New Music Tuesday #38

November 16, 2010

This weeks New Music Tuesday offers a couple sneak peek tracks from the talents of Playfellow and Girls, not to mention some great finds that are already available for the listening.
As it goes…I always end up waking a little earlier on Tuesday’s in order to have ample time to get through all the new album releases, only to find a few of my selections have been available for weeks. It can be frustrating.
Any-who…throw on some headphones (they always make it better) and have listen to some of this weeks finds.

Cemetery Of Shadows

November 12, 2010

Anonymous art collective Luzinterruptus (a work of Latin origin which means interrupted light) carry out urban installations in public spaces and use light as raw material. For their latest installation Beings Packaged In Light they’ve taken 100 inflatable dolls, wrapped them in large white plastic bags with lights and placed them outside the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as part of the contemporary art program, Winter Light Commissions.

The original idea was to have them standing so that they seemed to be living beings in distinct postures, but the tremendous night wind, decided for us and ended up giving an unexpected aspect to the installation, which was finally converted into a dramatic cemetery of shadows waiting to be buried“.

You can read an interview on the collective here…urbanartcore.eu
