Reflecting The Bright Lights

November 17, 2010

In this strangely fascinating short, Walter Hugo painstakingly resurrects the age-old studio technique of using silver nitrate on glass plates to produce portraits in a room-sized camera. (inhale)
Take a moment to have a look.

Film by Carlos C + Steven McInerney
Track: Moby “Shot in the Back of the Head | ambient”

New Music Tuesday #38

November 16, 2010

This weeks New Music Tuesday offers a couple sneak peek tracks from the talents of Playfellow and Girls, not to mention some great finds that are already available for the listening.
As it goes…I always end up waking a little earlier on Tuesday’s in order to have ample time to get through all the new album releases, only to find a few of my selections have been available for weeks. It can be frustrating.
Any-who…throw on some headphones (they always make it better) and have listen to some of this weeks finds.

Cemetery Of Shadows

November 12, 2010

Anonymous art collective Luzinterruptus (a work of Latin origin which means interrupted light) carry out urban installations in public spaces and use light as raw material. For their latest installation Beings Packaged In Light they’ve taken 100 inflatable dolls, wrapped them in large white plastic bags with lights and placed them outside the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as part of the contemporary art program, Winter Light Commissions.

The original idea was to have them standing so that they seemed to be living beings in distinct postures, but the tremendous night wind, decided for us and ended up giving an unexpected aspect to the installation, which was finally converted into a dramatic cemetery of shadows waiting to be buried“.

You can read an interview on the collective here…urbanartcore.eu

Light Stencil Animation

November 12, 2010

Creators, Lonut Negrila and Mihai Calota took 5,313 pictures, used 57 stencils, 3 black spray cans, 8 9volt batteries and 3 different light sources to produce this no budget animation, simply to inspire your creativity and resourcefulness. Cool.

Wilford Barrington

November 8, 2010

I’m really mesmerized by the work of Toronto based artist Wilford Barrington. He says of his work found in a mini-interview via Fecal Face.
I draw people from direct observation. The conversation I have with them during the portrait sitting along with the different expressions and emotions they convey inform how the portraits look. I depict an array of attitudes that will give the viewer insight as to the true nature of the sitter thereby creating an image that holds significance beyond their name and identity alone. They are essentially about how we get to ‘know’ someone, how we connect and what we honestly see when we look at a person. People are fluid creatures that do not sit still and their faces act as a window into a constantly changing stew of thoughts and emotions. What I see in a few hours can say so much about a person’s entire life.

You can see much more of his work by visiting his Blogspot here…Wilford Barrington.
