Take a look at these amazingly detailed oil paintings on paper by artist Yigal Ozeri. Photographed from afar Ozeri then reproduces this work in oil with tiny brush strokes and lots of talent.
Great stuff.

They are amazing paintings. But Ozeri has quite a number of assistants who participate in the painting process. So they do accomplish quite a lot of painting in a somewhat shorter period of time. Like the studios of the old masters…etc.

ozeri is overrated. they are nice paintings, but its not exactly correct to say they are just oil paintings. He has assistants paint these over photo images on both canvas and paper. A friend of mine worked for him and he’d make the painter’s leave as to look like he painted them himself. I think that’s just lame. If you use studio assistants, don’t hide that process or lie to your collectors. they are nice photos translated into paintings, not amazing in the least. i’m sick of schiesters like ozeri getting away with practices like this. at least with people like hirst and koons you know what you’re getting, factory production in most cases and they don’t hide it in the least, they embrace it. artist’s like ozeri are a huge problem in contemporary art. he says very little in his work, yet has an ability to create a huge output of “pretty pictures”. there is nothing to this work. It is average at the very best and completely unimportant to art culture and even less important to the culture as a whole. mike weiss seems to have forgotten what good art is (possibly never a criteria he has ever considered) adopting the idea of profit as king as a model for his gallery. Weiss’ stable of artists amount to little more than expensive decor creators that look to others to poorly execute their ideas.

also, as proof this guy has his assistants paint over photos, google pics of his studio and you find all of the images are complete images, nothing is ever “in progress”. this is an old and really lame illustration technique. there are never any assistants in those photos either, just the lone painter toiling over his work, give me a break. he’s a phony. this guy walks around chelsea like he’s some shit, let’s bring this guy down a notch or two, or three. what a waist of talented assistant’s time and paint. Weiss should be showing those assistants and not this hack.
